A health savings account is a tax-advantaged savings account that can be funded by individuals whose only health care coverage is a qualified high deductible health plan . An HSA is an alternative way for you to pay for your qualified health care expenses and save for future qualified health care expenses on a tax-free basis. Expenses such as out-of-pocket costs for office visits, prescription drugs, dental expenses and laboratory tests may be paid for from your HSA. If you do not see your coverage amounts and co-pays on your health insurance card, call your insurance company . Under the last-month rule, if you are an eligible individual on the first day of the last month of your tax year , you are considered an eligible individual for the entire year.
